Behind The Design | My Sweet Hawai'i Collection

Behind The Design | My Sweet Hawai'i Collection

It's been a while since I have added anything to this blog, but one of the things that I want to be better about is sharing more about what makes each special to me and why I decided to add it to the shop. Today, I wanted to talk a little about the newest collection that I have added to the shop which is the My Sweet Hawai'i collection.

This collection is an ode to not just the place where I was born and raised, but it's also an ode to my childhood and all of the memories that I'm trying to hold on to. When I was traveling back and forth between Las Vegas and Hawai'i to spend time with my maternal grandpa towards his end of life, I spent a lot of time in the airport (and plane) just thinking back on all the memories I had with him. It was then that I realized I had forgotten a lot of these moments and it wasn't until I'd be talking with my aunty, uncles, or cousins, would I remember them.

As someone who is very sentimental, I'm always trying to find ways to hold on to those moments. When we went back for my grandpas funeral, my husband and I decided to spend a few days on our own and stayed at the Royal Kona Resort, highly recommend by the way. While we were checking in I wandered around the check-in area and noticed these beautiful Hawaiian quilts. I remembered my paternal grandma used to have a beautiful white and yellow one and when I would wake up early in the mornings on the weekends, I would go downstairs to hang out with her for a little bit. I remember I would trace the outline of the pattern and most of the time, I would fall asleep in her bed.

Needless to say, when we got back home, I knew the first thing I wanted to include in this collection was a Hawaiian quilt pattern. That's how the ulu pattern was added to the shop! It's currently undergoing a slight revamp right now because I can no longer find the HTV color I was using before, but it's a product that always reminds me of those slow mornings with my grandma.

I'm trying to think of other fun ways to incorporate a few other patterns into the shop, but I've been busy working on the latest items to be added to the collection, so I haven't really figured that out yet.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoyed this little peek behind the curtain. When I say these items have a special place in my heart, I truly mean it! Thank you for taking the time to share this with me and I can't wait till the next post!
